February 28, 2024 Dear House Republicans: When you return from recess, you will be in session for just two days before parts of the federal government begin shutting down. As the top-line number of $1.7 trillion is now set, the real appropriations battle begins over so-called appropriations “riders.” We urge you to defund the rulemaking process for “Basel III Endgame,” officially known as “Large Banking Organizations and Banking Organizations with Significant Trading Activity.” While the Basel Committee’s Endgame standards purport to strengthen the financial sector, we believe that the opposite is true. As the American Bankers Association and other trade associations have repeatedly warned, “the Proposal would constrain the banking sector’s ability to provide credit and other essential financial services,” making it harder for Americans and American businesses to make ends meet. We strongly encourage you to defund the rulemaking process for the proposed rule “Large Banking Organizations and Banking Organizations with Significant Trading Activity” in upcoming appropriations bills.
