Don't Let the Swamp Steal Christmas
TOPLINE: Washington loves the annual Christmas spending bill. Why? Because they load it up for goodies for all the special interest groups, leaving the American taxpayers to pay the bill. Conservatives must hold the line against a blowout spending bill. Here’s what the Swamp will likely want in an end-of-year spending bill:
Higher Spending: “Christmas tree” appropriations are a proven recipe for higher spending. • The last time Congress agreed to a December omnibus bill, discretionary budget authority jumped from $1.470 trillion in FY 2022 to $1.624 trillion in FY 2023.
o That’s a 1-year spending increase of $154 BILLION. • Conservatives should not pass a spending bill that continues Biden spending levels. Extending COVID-Era Obamacare Handouts: • In 2021, Democrats massively expanded Obamacare tax subsidies to include Americans making upwards of ~$150,000 a year. • These subsidies are set to expire at the end of the year. • Conservatives should let them expire. The American people didn’t send them to Washington to save Obamacare.
o DIG DEEPER: AAF MEMO: Don’t Save Obamacare Expanding European-Style Price Controls on Life-Saving Prescription Drugs: • Conservatives must reject any attempt to expand Inflation Reduction Act-styled price controls under the pseudonym of “Most-Favored-Nation" policies. • These policies will result in less cures coming to market and decreased life expectancy. Rolling Back the One Big Beautiful Bill • The One Big Beautiful Bill’s wins must be protected even if it means shutting down the government.
o REFRESHER: AAF: Wins of the OBBB Earmarks Will Grease the Wheels: • Earmarks are the currency of the Swamp traded to win over votes with sweetheart deals delivered to the district. • Congress should BAN earmarks and return to earlier practices.

BOTTOMLINE: The American People are sick and tired of business as usual in Washington. This is why they gave Conservatives a mandate to fundamentally change how this town operates in the last election. Conservatives must see it through by ending Washington’s traditional end-of-year blow-out spending bill.
