AAF: Debt, Border, and China Hawks Should Support Ukraine Aid
TOPLINE: Most Americans support Ukraine against Russia’s invasion, but the Right is split on whether the U.S. should continue to provide lethal aid to Ukraine amidst the Biden-Harris Administration’s domestic disasters. Skeptics on the Right are rightly worried about the rise of China, open borders, and the national debt and inflation—but these crises will only worsen if Russia defeats Ukraine. Ukrainian victory remains in America’s best interests.
ARGUMENT: The U.S. must pivot from Ukraine to focus on China. RESPONSE: China is openly assisting Russia in its invasion of Ukraine. • Russian control of Ukraine would further empower China, now Russia’s top trading partner. • Despite international sanctions, China has continued to provide Russia with crucial technology
and components. • Defeating Russia hamstrings China. Russian control over Ukraine would provide China
with more oil and natural gas, further fueling China’s expansionist ambitions.
ARGUMENT: The U.S. must secure its own border before it sends money to secure Ukraine’s. RESPONSE: Securing the border is primarily an issue of willpower, not a $$$ problem. • More than 120,000 Russian nationals have illegally entered our country under Border Czar
Harris’s watch. While some may be refugees, we need to know who is entering the country. • Putin has weaponized refugees against other countries, driving immigration crises to
destabilize Europe. A triumphant Putin would be free to attempt the same against the U.S. • The Biden-Harris administration’s Open Border policies will not change until the
American people elect a new President. Let’s not let Ukraine get conquered before then.
ARGUMENT: As the national debt surpasses $35 trillion, we simply don’t have any more money to spend on other countries’ problems.
RESPONSE: While there’s no question that the federal government has a massive overspending problem, lethal aid to Ukraine has been worth every penny. • Using just 1.5% of the federal budget, the U.S. assisted Ukraine in degrading the Russian
military from the second best in the world to the second best in Ukraine. • Future appropriations for Ukraine should focus solely on lethal aid. • The cost of a Russian attack on a NATO ally, who we are treaty-bound to defend, would quickly
exceed 1.5% of the federal budget.
o ICYMI: AAF published a guide to cut federal spending. BOTTOMLINE: It is in America’s best interests for Ukraine to win the war. A Russian victory will only worsen the Biden-Harris Administration-created crises. The Conservative Movement must help Ukraine win to keep these Biden-Harris domestic crises from becoming worse.
