Today, in National Republican Senatorial Committee v.Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court correctly ruled for thefreedom of speech and association in federal elections.
The Court struck down a provision of the Federal ElectionCampaign Act (FECA) that prohibited political parties from coordinating theirspeech with the candidates they are supporting. The FECA provision at issue inthis case was unconstitutional when passed by Congress and has become even moreburdensome in the intervening decades.
We applaud the Supreme Court’s ruling for protecting thefundamental freedoms of speech and association.
