January – 2025

Jan 3 President Biden, invoking Section 721 of the Defense Production Act of 1950, has prohibited the proposed acquisition of U.S. Steel by Nippon Steel Corporation, calling the acquisition a supposed potential threat to national security. The President directed Attorney General Garland to take all necessary measures to ensure the deal does not proceed. This farewell gift to his union allies is a loss for American workers and strains America’s alliance with Japan.

Jan 4 President Biden weaponized the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation’s highest civilian honor, as a partisan tool to lionize his liberal friends. He rewarded one of the Democratic Party’s largest mega-donors, George Soros, who has bankrolled progressive prosecutors running for district attorney races across America who have failed to do their job to keep America’s communities safe and put criminals behind bars. He also awarded the medal to Hillary Clinton.

Jan 6 President Biden announced plans to prohibit offshore oil and natural gas drilling, including the East and West Coasts, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and Alaska’s Northern Bering Sea. This action raises questions about its long-term implications, such as reduced domestic energy independence, potential increases in energy prices due to lower supply, and a greater reliance on energy imports.

Jan 9 The Biden-Harris Administration has settled with several universities’ negligence in addressing antisemitism on their campuses under the expectation that the incoming Trump administration would take a much tougher stance on this issue. The universities include Rutgers University, several University of California campuses (including UCLA), and Johns Hopkins University, among others. Most egregiously, pro-Hamas activists at UCLA established a climate of fear and intimidation by creating unofficial “Jew-free zones” on campus. This pattern is unacceptable and must be forcefully addressed by the new administration.

Jan 14 The Biden-Harris Administration officially removed Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list. This represents another slap in the face to the Cuban-American community from Democrat administrations. Given Cuba's autocratic government and its record of backing anti-American guerilla groups and terrorists, the regime’s credibility is doubtful.

Jan 16 Officials recently revealed to Congress that nurses in Mozambique have illegally used PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) funding to conduct 21 abortions over the past four years. PEPFAR is an AIDS relief and prevention program that has saved lives in Africa, and using such funding on abortions has been strictly prohibited since George W. Bush enacted the program in 2003. The pro-life provisions of the law have been essential for its longstanding bipartisan support up to this point, and the violation of such provisions puts the program in jeopardy.

Jan 20 Hours before leaving the White House, President Biden pardoned several political allies (including Dr. Anthony Fauci, General Mark Milley, and the members of the House January 6 Committee) and five family members. Preemptive pardons for no specific offense are legally dubious and heighten suspicion of corrupt and illegal activity. Biden also commuted the sentence of Leonard Peltier, a man who killed police officers. These pardons set a disturbing precedent and show abhorrent disrespect for the rule of law and those who enforce it.
