Advancing American Freedom Expresses Disappointment in Supreme Court Denial of Certiorari to Christian Baker

AAF is disappointed that the Supreme Court has declined to hear Miller v. Civil Rights Department in which the California Civil Rights Department seeks to punish a California bakery owner’s decision not to create a cake that violates her religious convictions. The outcome in this case should have been clear from the Court’s earlier decisions in 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis but the California courts nonetheless ruled against Ms. Miller. The Supreme Court must be clear so that American artists and craftsmen do not have to choose between engaging in a lawful profession and exercising their faith. The Court’s decision not to hear Ms. Miller’s case leaves religious American business owners susceptible to states like California.
