Bryce G. Poole

Bryce G. Poole is a Senior Legal Fellow with the Edwin Meese III Institute for the Rule of Law at Advancing American Freedom. With nearly two decades of experience as a military and civilian attorney, Bryce’s primary areas of scholarship include national security law and policy, terrorism, military law, constitutional law, criminal law and procedure, administrative law, and international law. His previous articles have been cited numerous times, including by the British Army’s Centre for Historical Analysis and Conflict Research and the Attorney General for the State of Tennessee.

Bryce served for eight years on active duty as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Bryce subsequently served as a civilian attorney with the Department of Defense for over ten years. Bryce served as a senior prosecutor, appellate counsel, and the Deputy Chief of the Motions and Appeals section in the Office of the Chief Prosecutor of Military Commissions, which is responsible for prosecuting complex international terrorism and war crimes cases. Bryce was appellate counsel in over 30 cases in the U.S. Court of Military Commission Review. He also assisted the Department of Justice in over 25 cases in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the Supreme Court.

Bryce earned his law degree from Ave Maria School of Law and an LL.M. in National Security Law from the Georgetown University Law Center.
