Advancing American Freedom led a coalition of 18 other amici fighting for parents’ access to justice for their children. In its amicus brief in Warner v. School Board of Hillsborough, AAF supported a challenge to an 11th Circuit rule that prevents parents from representing their children in that circuit pro se, that is, without a lawyer.
“Parents are the guardians of their children’s interest and have both the right and the responsibility to exercise that guardianship against the recent nationwide attacks on parental authority. The 11th Circuit’s rule undermines that freedom,” said AAF General Counsel J. Marc Wheat. “Whether a parent can protect his or her children should not depend on whether that parent can afford to hire a lawyer.”
