Advancing American Freedom led a coalition of 43 other amici fighting big brother. In Texas Top Cop Shop v. Bondi, Texas Top Cop Shop is challenging the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) that requires corporations, from small businesses to political organizations, to report “Beneficial Owner Information” to the government. The CTA is unconstitutional because it is not an exercise of any of Congress’s enumerated powers. AAF calls on the Fifth Circuit to rule for Texas Top Cop Shop and find that the CTA is unconstitutional.
“Congress has no authority to collect massive amounts of personal information about private Americans, yet that is exactly what it is trying to do through the CTA and other similar programs,” said AAF General Counsel J. Marc Wheat. “When the government collects data, it is inviting foreign adversaries to hack into those databases and gain access to that information, as they have done repeatedly. The Fifth Circuit should rule for Texas Top Cop Shop and protect Americans’ data.”
