Research Fellow

Preston is a Research Fellow in AAF’s Plymouth Institute for Free Enterprise, where he focuses on tax policy and works on a range of other economic and budget policy issues, including inflation, the impact of the national debt, energy policies, budget process, and government efficiency. He has testified before Congress on multiple occasions. He works with policymakers, congressional staff, and others in the cause of freedom to promote and craft principled conservative policies. Preston has written many substantive reports explaining the ins and outs of federal tax legislation, and he has helped prepare published plans for balancing the federal budget. Preston has authored about 100 commentaries for national and regional outlets across the country, including The Hill, National Review, Fox News, Foundation for Economic Education (FEE), RealClearPolicy, RealClearMarkets, the Washington Times, and the Washington Examiner. Preston has been a frequent guest on radio shows and podcasts around the country and has appeared on Fox Business, CNBC, Newsmax, and the Salem News Channel.

Preston has a PhD and Master’s in Economics from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Washington. Before coming to AAF, Preston worked as a Research Fellow in tax policy at The Heritage Foundation, a transfer pricing manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and worked in state tax and fiscal modeling and research in Washington state.
