AAF Encourages Trump Administration to Double Down on Pro-Growth Policies Through Free Trade with Allies
WASHINGTON – In response to today’s disappointing jobs report and renewed broad-based tariffs on U.S. trading partners, Advancing American Freedom President Tim Chapman issued the following statement:
“Today’s jobs report is a flashing red warning that broad-based tariffs aren’t working. With 440,000 full-time jobs lost in July alone and manufacturing jobs declining for the third straight month, it’s clear that businesses are scaling back and American families are feeling the strain. We’re already seeing billions in losses for manufacturers, looming product shortages, and rising costs that are either absorbed by U.S. companies or passed on to consumers. Even industries the tariffs aim to protect—like autos—are experiencing significant challenges.
“A new 15–20% global tariff means higher prices for working families, increased uncertainty for job creators, and weakened relationships with key allies. These tariffs represent the largest middle-class tax hikes since World War II—costing households an estimated $1,200 to $4,000 per year and eroding the relief provided by the historic Trump tax cuts.
“Now is the time to embrace policies that promote stability, growth, and lower costs. President Trump has consistently championed American workers and middle-class prosperity. That mission is best served by pursuing free trade with our allies while maintaining a firm, strategic stance toward authoritarian regimes like China and Russia. Given the clear signs of economic fragility, we urge the Administration to double down on pro-growth, pro-freedom policies and commit to a long-term strategy of free trade with free nations.”
Advancing American Freedom has repeatedly called for an end to tariffs and launched a six-figure ad campaign urging Washington to say no to tariffs. AAF will continue to advocate against leaving broad-based tariffs in place that could counteract the pro-growth agenda that worked so well in President Trump’s first term.
