The Biden Department of Homeland Security increased civil penalties for individuals who do not comply with the federal face mask requirement. Under this new directive, travelers using airports, airports, commercial aircraft, and various modes of surface transportation (including passenger railroads, intercity bus services, and other public transportation) are subject to a new range of penalties if they violate the requirement to wear a mask. The new range of penalties are $500-$1000 for first offenders and $1000-$3000 for second offenders.
