February – 2024

Feb 1 Joe Biden issued an executive order as of Thursday, February 1st, targeting Israeli settlers in the West Bank. This order gives the Treasury Department the power to impose financial sanctions on persons seeking harm in the West Bank. The problem is that the definitions used to determine a person fitting this qualification are vague enough to include any Israeli settling in the West Bank.

Feb 6 The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) introduced a Draft Interagency Guidance Framework for Considering the Exercise of March-In Rights that sets out to clarify the guidelines by which march-in rights can be exercised. The new guidance expands the government’s discretion of march-in rights in a way that will lead to a variety of industries facing ramifications. The Biden administration’s aggressive agenda to lower the cost of prescription drugs disregards the negative side effects creating a hesitation by industries to enter government partnerships and ultimately a hindrance to innovation and development.

Feb 7 On Wednesday, February 7th, the Biden administration finalized a ruling increasing restrictions on particulate matter produced by manufacturing and energy sectors. The new guidelines decrease the annual PM2.5 standard from a level of 12 micrograms per cubic meter to a level of 9 micrograms per cubic meter. The industry reveals this regulation will have a disastrous economic consequence. The Biden administration continues to make aggressive changes to appease climate change activists yet has the power to bring about economic devastation.

Feb 14 The Biden administration announced on Wednesday, February 14th Palestinians will be exempt from deportation for at least 18 months. President Biden released a memorandum explaining his decision to approve deferred enforced departure (DED) for Palestinian nationals which included the ability for noncitizens to apply for employment authorization. The US is providing asylum even to those who are passionately supportive of the terrorist group, Hamas.

Feb 21 In another wave of student debt cancellation, the Biden administration announced the cancellation of an additional $1.2 billion on Wednesday, February 22nd. At this point, Biden has given away almost $138 billion to forgive student loans. Borrowing money with the intent of paying it back is no light commitment. We do not want a society that believes you can take out a loan and need not have any concern for repayment. The reality is someone must deal with the bill. America cannot afford to add to its already high debt of over $30 trillion.

Feb 23 The Biden administration clearly stated on Friday, February 23rd that Israel’s plan to construct homes and businesses in Judea and Samaria conflicts with international law. This is a major reversal from the previous administration’s policy and punishes Israel during its time of defensive war. Israelis have the right to live in their historic homeland.

Feb 29 On Wednesday, February 29th, the US State Department opened an investigation into an Israeli company called Finkelstein Metals. Finkelstein is a company that produces brass, bronze, and copper alloy products and is the sole manufacturer of a key component of Iron Dome parts. The precedential investigation procedure could have a dramatic impact on the entire trade relationship between Israel and the US and have expansive implications for Israeli exporters to the US, including the defense industry.
