August 8

President Biden created a new national monument in Arizona on August 8, banning uranium mining in a wide swath of land surrounding the Grand Canyon. Biden made it clear that this move is being taken in order to use the power of big government to “combat the existential threat of climate change,” though all the move really does is weaken American energy independence.

In early August, the Biden administration granted the Islamic Republic of Iran access to over $6 billion in frozen assets and released Iranian prisoners in exchange for five American hostages. While the safe return of unjustly held Americans is always a cause for celebration, the manner in which President Biden achieved this is cause for deep concern. Iran is taking Americans prisoner precisely to get ransoms like these, and the Biden administration continues to pay increasing prices and cave to the demands of Iran’s ruling mullahs. This decision emboldens Iran and our other adversaries to hold America hostage and capture American citizens as leverage to achieve other goals.

August 14

After the Supreme Court’s June 29th decision in Students for Fair Admissions Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College and Students for Fair Admissions Inc. v. University of North Carolina et al., the Biden Department of Justice and Department of Education jointly released guidance to colleges and universities to help them get around the Supreme Court ruling. The administration continues to look for ways to defy the Supreme Court and ensure that the unjust system of race-based college admissions stays in place.

It was revealed in late August that the Biden administration has been quietly selling off materials meant to be used for border wall construction. The administration has collected millions of dollars for the parts, which were purchased using taxpayer funds. The Biden administration’s behind-the-scenes actions come as they refuse to support efforts at our southern border to reduce illegal migration and stop the border crisis from continuing to escalate. Instead, they are choosing to actively undercut efforts to strengthen our border by surreptitiously selling materials so that they cannot be used in a border wall.
