April 2021

April 7

The Biden-Harris Administration announced 6 actions being taken to “address the gun violence public health epidemic.” These actions included multiple directives to restrict “ghost guns” (guns assembled from disparate pieces or “printed”) and gun braces, as well as to encourage constitutionally dubious laws such as “red flag” laws, which make it easier to take guns away from law-abiding people. The announcement contains multiple references to the misguided notion that a solution to gun violence is increased intervention and funding from the federal government—including Medicaid funding.

The State Department announced the restoration of assistance to the Palestinians, included through the maligned United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA).

April 12

The FDA made the abortion pill mifepristone available via telemedicine and mail, removing the in-person dispensing requirement for the pill.

April 14

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services proposed to bring Planned Parenthood back into the Title X grant program and then increased funding for Title X.

April 16

The Biden administration removed Trump-Pence restrictions on government-funded research involving fetal tissue derived from aborted babies.

April 16

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services revoked the Medicaid waivers of key states like Texas, which the Trump-Pence Administration had granted in order to allow state-based innovation and flexibility in the bloated federal program. The move was an attempt to strong-arm states like Texas into expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. Ultimately, the state of Texas won a preliminary injunction in August of 2021 barring the Biden administration from refusing to extend a waiver.

April 19

The Biden Department of Education proposed a grant program that prioritizes education focusing on bias, discrimination, and anti-racism. The Department of Education notice cited the 1619 Project and activist Ibram X. Kendi in arguing that American classrooms should be used to prioritize teaching about “systemic marginalization, biases, inequities, and discriminatory policy and practice in American history.”

April 19

The Department of Energy revoked a Trump order protecting the U.S. electrical grid from Chinese cyberattack. The Trump order prohibited electric utilities that supply critical defense facilities from importing certain power system equipment from China.

April 22

The Biden Administration continued a push for electric vehicles and away from petroleum-powered vehicles without taking any action to ensure American independence in this sector. The administration announced they would accelerate the deployment of EVs and chargers despite the obvious national security risks of increasing American energy and transportation reliance on China and the Congo, which produce most of the world’s minerals needed for the batteries in electric cars.

April 22

The White House announced the “U.S. International Climate Finance Plan,” which uses taxpayer money to advance left-wing “climate financing” goals around the world.
