AAF Statement on Debt Limit Deal

Advancing American Freedom issued the following statement on the recent debt limit deal that was negotiated over the long weekend.

“President Biden is sending the United States over yet another fiscal cliff. This new deal barely scratches the surface of the largest driver of our debt: social welfare spending; it allows unlimited borrowing and spending until 2025, waters down spending cuts, and erodes defense spending at a time when tensions with American adversaries are growing,” said AAF Executive Director Paul Teller. “The debt limit deal clearly fails to meet the seriousness of our fiscal moment, which requires real solutions, not Washington, D.C. closed-door deals that can be undercut years down the road.”

Background
Last month, Advancing American Freedom praised Speaker McCarthy and House Republicans for passage of the Limit, Save, Grow Act, which would ensure that the federal government does not once again increase the national debt without making serious economic budgetary reforms. Last week, Fitch (one of the Big Three credit rating agencies) issued a “rating watch negative” citing the “failure of U.S. authorities to meaningfully tackle medium-term fiscal challenges that will lead to rising budget deficits and a growing debt burden” as substantial “risks to U.S. creditworthiness.”

AAF Applauds House Blocking Biden’s Student Loan Bailout, Climate Overreach

Today Advancing American Freedom (AAF) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed resolutions to block President Biden’s student loan bailout and climate overreach.

“The Biden administration’s massive overreach was rejected by the House of Representatives twice this week, as Republicans and Democrats came together to say ‘no’ to the extremism emanating from the White House. Using the Congressional Review Act (CRA), the House voted to overturn Biden’s exorbitant student loan bailout and climate overreach rules,” said AAF Executive Director Paul Teller. “We applaud these efforts and will continue to champion them as they move on to the Supreme Court and the Senate.”

Background
The CRA is one of several effective tools for Congressional Republicans to stop President Biden’s regulatory overreach and hold the Biden administration accountable. The climate rule would have burdened Americans with tens of billions of dollars of new regulations, and the student loan rule was estimated to cost close to half a trillion dollars. AAF also filed an amicus brief in the Supreme Court case on Biden’s student loan bailout that will be decided on in the coming months.

Mike Pence, AAF Take Defense of Parental Rights in Schools to Florida

On Friday, Advancing American Freedom (AAF), a group affiliated with former Vice President Mike Pence, filed an amicus brief in Florida defending the rights of parents and arguing that school administrators cannot hide life-altering decisions about a child from the parents.

In the Leon County case school officials encouraged the appellant’s daughter to use a new name and new pronouns and adopt a new personality while seeking to hide these important decisions from the parents.
“The fact that Florida schools could hide life-altering decisions from parents about their children isn’t just bad policy, it’s foolishness. It is unthinkable that woke school districts think they can make better choices than parents can,” said Pence. “This is why we must stand for parent’s rights, resist divisive woke policies, and stand strong for families in Florida and across America.”

“The Far-Left’s education policies have no place in deciding if parents are notified about their children’s decisions, parents always have the right to know,” said J Marc Wheat, AAF’s general counsel. “Advancing American Freedom will continue to stand with parents in our courts for their right to be informed and to parent their children.”

This is the third amicus brief AAF has filed defending the rights of the parents against woke school policies that disrupt the family unit. AAF filed the first amicus brief for the Linn Mar school district and launched a parents’ rights campaign in February. In March, AAF filed its second amicus brief in Massachusetts.

Pence is garnering increased buzz as a possible candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.

In March, AAF filed its second amicus brief in Massachusetts.

AAF Praises Supreme Court Ruling in Favor of Landowners

Today Advancing American Freedom issued a statement praising the Supreme Court’s decision that the EPA’s (Environmental Protection Agency) interpretation of the Clean Water Act overreached in its regulation of waters of the United States.

“The EPA has been an outrageous abuser of insisting that courts defer to them under the Chevron doctrine,” said J Marc Wheat, General Counsel for AAF. “With a 9-0 decision in this case, we expect good things when the Court takes up Chevron deference later this term.”

Background:

AAF continues to advocate for rollbacks of bureaucratic overreach in energy sector, government spending, and ESG encroachment. In December, AAF filed an amicus brief arguing for the overturning of the Chevron Doctrine. The Supreme Court is scheduled to rule on the Chevron Doctrine in the coming months.

Pence Nonprofit Group Putting Door Hangers Around Iowa Advocating Parental Rights

As speculation grows around former Vice President Mike Pence joining the 2024 presidential race, his nonprofit group continues its push in Iowa by putting door hangers around the state featuring the former vice president and a QR code that gathers voter information.

Advancing American Freedom, which said in February it would spend millions in Iowa on a push for parental rights and against transgender-affirming policies in schools, has now started putting out door hangers around the state as part of the same campaign in what has been some of the most direct voter outreach done by the group.

The hangers, reviewed by the Washington Examiner, show Pence’s name in bold letters at the top of the hanger, followed by “Strengthening & Protecting American Liberties From Our Homes To Our Schools.” It also includes a QR code that takes people to a form where they can fill out their information.

“Mike Pence has long fought to defend a parent’s right to protect their child,” the piece reads. “We cannot allow burdensome decrees from radical Washington liberals, including gender support plans for children that prevent parental involvement.”

A spokesperson for the group said it has canvassed and knocked on more than 121,000 doors across Iowa. The group has also filed an amicus brief in support of families suing the Linn-Mar Community School District outside of Cedar Rapds for providing students with a gender support plan without a parent’s permission.

“The strength of our nation is tied to the strength of our families, and we cannot stand idly by as the Radical Left attempts to indoctrinate our children behind parents’ backs,” Pence said in a statement. “Advancing American Freedom will not rest until parental rights are restored in Iowa and across the nation.”

The group was formed in 2021, is financed by Pence’s supporters, and has a board of political operatives and conservative talk show hosts, including Kellyanne Conway, the onetime counselor to former President Donald Trump, former Sen. Rick Santorum, and Larry Kudlow, a host on Fox Business and former director of the National Economic Council under Trump. Some of the board members told the Washington Examiner that their place on the board is not an endorsement of Pence’s political aspirations but rather them helping a longtime friend.

Kudlow said that his being on the board is not a sign of any endorsement of Pence. Rather, he said he thinks of the former vice president as a “very good and long personal friend” and that he supports the cause of the group, which is why he joined.

“I think he’s really a great American, and a great patriot, and a great Christian, but it’s not an endorsement for president. It’s just merely to help out because he’s a dear friend,” Kudlow said.

Santorum, who ran for president in 2016 before dropping out and ultimately endorsing Trump, said his place on the board is not an endorsement of Pence because he does not plan to endorse anybody in the race.

“I think Mike Pence is a great American and is a good man,” Santorum said. “I’m not endorsing any candidate. I work with Newsmax, and I’ve told them that as a commentator and as someone who’s going to be commentating on the race for the next year and a half that I would not support any candidate.”

Conway did not respond to requests for comment, but, according to Politico Playbook, Conway has been advocating Miami Mayor Francis Suarez to be Trump’s next running mate.

“If you don’t want Donald Trump to be the nominee, you have a choice to make,” Conway said on Fox News this weekend. “You either run against him hammer and tong, square on, or you don’t run at all because too many people will dilute it.”

AAF Releases Aggressive Agenda to Counter China Threat

Today, Advancing American Freedom (AAF) issued a Future of Freedom Agenda focused on countering the growing economic and military threat of China. The agenda would increase U.S. military preparedness, improve trade relations with other nations, establish American energy independence, and secure U.S. citizens’ data. This agenda is the fourth in AAF’s ‘Future of Freedom’ series, that provides legislative recommendations to Congress.

“In recent years, China has only grown bolder in repressing religious liberty, trampling human rights, committing trade abuses, threatening Taiwan, and launching aggressive military maneuvers in the South China Sea,” said AAF Founder Vice President Mike Pence. “Appeasement has never worked a single time in human history, and it will not work now. America must send a clear message message that this aggression will not be tolerated. It’s why my organization, Advancing American Freedom, has put forward a Future of Freedom Agenda standing strong for American freedom against the growing threat of China.”

“The first job of the government is to provide for a strong national defense that protects its citizens from outside threats, and China now poses such a threat,” said Advancing American Freedom Executive Director Paul Teller. “Advancing American Freedom calls on Congress to pass legislation that would counter the growing existential threat and would secure America as the leader of the free world.”

AAF Announces Campaign Targeting Government Spending

Today, Advancing American Freedom (AAF) announced a six-figure ad campaign calling for common sense reforms to out-of-control government spending. The multi-state initiative follows an economic policy address by AAF founder, Vice President Mike Pence, delivered Tuesday evening in Concord, New Hampshire. The campaign will call for greater accountability in Washington’s spending habits, with a particular focus on entitlement programs, which make up more than 70% of the national budget.

“Entitlement programs are far and away the biggest driver of runaway spending, and ignoring the problem is no longer an option,” said AAF founder Vice President Mike Pence. “President Biden’s policy is insolvency, and the same can be said of any of our leaders unwilling to take measures to save Social Security before it collapses. Washington owes the American people bold leadership and a better deal—and our team is proud to lead that fight.”

Background
Vice President Pence and Advancing American Freedom have led the call for a return to the free market principles that unleashed unprecedented economic prosperity in the United States. From tackling entitlement reform and slashing government spending to reducing taxes and regulations, AAF will continue to advocate for the policies that allow American families and businesses to thrive.

AAF Files Amicus Brief on FDA Approval of Abortion Drug

Advancing American Freedom filed an amicus brief stating that FDA approval of Mifepristone was an unlawful federal agency action and should be set aside by the court, without deference to the FDA, under the Administrative Procedure Act.

AAF Sends FOIA to FDA on Approval of Chemical Abortion Drug

Advancing American Freedom, joined by twenty-nine other pro-life groups, sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding their approval of the chemical abortion drug mifepristone in 2000, and the underreported incidents that followed the use of the drug.

“When the FDA approved mifepristone in 2000 there was underreporting of serious incidents for the women who used the drug,” said AAF General Counsel J. Marc Wheat. “The women whose health and safety were jeopardized by this drug deserve answers and accountability about the approval process for the chemical abortion drug.”
