Advancing American Freedom led a coalition of 22 other amici defending the University of Buffalo chapter of Young Americans for Freedom from an activist Student Association that sought to punish YAF for hosting conservative views. AAF argued that the Student Association’s efforts to force groups to disassociate from national organizations, in this case Young America’s Foundation, violated the First Amendment freedoms of speech and association. This case is a continuation of a years-long pattern of harassment of conservatives on campus.
“Conservatives have long been the underdog in the college campus environment in the United States, so we are proud to stand with perhaps the most important conservative student organization, Young Americans for Freedom,” said AAF General Counsel J. Marc Wheat. “Conservatives should be able to gather together and encourage one another without being harassed by the faculty, the administration, or by student government. We urge the Second Circuit to defend the First Amendment in this case.”
