Former Vice President Mike Pence equated Critical Race Theory (CRT) to “state-sanctioned racism” in a fiery speech Tuesday.
Pence spoke at the Young America’s Foundation about his “Freedom Agenda,” just hours before former President Donald Trump’s speech in Washington, D.C., at the America First Agenda Summit.
“Our culture agenda begins with the sanctity of life, but it also involves securing liberty,” Pence said. “That means defending religious liberty and freedom of speech from the censorship coercion of cancel culture. It means securing our border, supporting law enforcement. It means finishing the wall and giving the men and women of law enforcement the support they deserve every single day.”
“Now, Critical Race Theory is nothing more than state-sanctioned racism and it should be rejected in every community and every school in the nation,” Pence continued to a round of applause. “We need to purge our schools of Critical Race Theory and restore patriotic education in every classroom in America. And the time has come to allow every family to choose where their children go to school, regardless of their income or area code. School choice’s time has come.”
CRT holds America is fundamentally racist and teaches students to view every social interaction and person in terms of race.
Neither Pence nor Trump have formally announced plans to run for president in 2024, though there is chatter that both could run. Trump said he “wouldn’t be concerned” if Pence ran.
“That’s ok if he ran. I mean, I wouldn’t be concerned with that,” Trump said during an interview with Fox News in May. “People are very disappointed in Mike, and if he ran, I don’t think that would be a problem.”

Former Vice President Mike Pence told young conservatives Tuesday to champion pro-life policies and to focus on the future in a speech that hailed his achievements with former President Donald Trump while acknowledging he has a different focus than his former boss.
In a speech to Young America’s Foundation, Mr. Pence said a positive agenda begins with preserving the sanctity of life as he hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to return decisions about abortion policies to the states.
“We sent Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history where it belongs,” said Mr. Pence. “We save the babies, we’ll save America.”
He hailed the work of the “Trump-Pence administration” in installing three justices who made the ruling possible and called for defunding Planned Parenthood. He said efforts to restrict abortion across the U.S. must be paired with efforts to support birth mothers and adoption services.
Mr. Pence blasted critical race theory as “state-sanctioned racism,” touching on a theme that animated conservatives in the last election cycle, and said every family should have the resources to choose where their child goes to school.

In just 18 months, President Joe Biden has transformed America from the world’s top producer of oil and gas into an energy desert. Biden has been waging war on American energy since his first day in office. The Freedom Agenda provides a clear roadmap for conservative leaders and candidates to proudly embrace fundamental truths the left deems heresy. It is built upon the belief that Americans want to create more economic opportunity, restore American leadership on the world stage, and are proud of traditional American culture and want to preserve it.
The Freedom Agenda encourages conservatives to embrace policies that will not only restore energy independence but the unprecedented American energy dominance achieved under the Trump-Pence administration.
First, the Freedom Agenda calls for expediting permits and approvals for oil and gas production as well as pipeline construction and expanded drilling on federal lands. America has more than enough energy under our own soil to power our prosperity, without relying on hostile nations like Russia.
Second, conservatives should work to eliminate mandates, regulations, and special tax breaks that put a thumb on the scale for politically favored energy sources over other forms of American energy. There should be no market-distorting government subsidies for any energy source. Likewise, conservatives should fight policies that discriminate against technology that uses American energy – like coal and petroleum – and favor energy technology that relies on resources from foreign countries, like minerals from China and Congo to make the batteries for electric cars.
Finally, conservatives should facilitate the export of American liquified natural gas through fast approvals of export terminals. By doing so, we can help our friends in Europe become less reliant on Russian gas imports and impose an even higher cost on Russia for its criminal invasion of Ukraine.
Today in America, what’s at stake is not just the outcome of future elections–what’s at stake is the very survival of the American nation. In 2022 and beyond, the American People will choose more than which party controls their government. Voters will decide whether their children and grandchildren stand tall as citizens of the freest nation on earth, or whether they are forced to live in the economic, moral, and spiritual poverty of socialism.
With the forward-looking Freedom Agenda, conservatives can secure the energy necessary to power our prosperity and build a bigger, broader, and bolder majority that lasts for generations to come.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is expected to spotlight China’s “adversarial intentions” toward the U.S. and its allies in a keynote address Wednesday at a key international summit.
In remarks prepared for the Asian Leadership Conference in Seoul obtained exclusively by The Washington Times, Mr. Pence highlights what he calls China’s increasing provocations as a threat to global stability.
Mr. Pence’s address at the summit is the latest in a series of public appearances in which the former vice president has offered a glimpse into his foreign-policy ideas and placed his imprint on GOP messaging as the party eyes the presidential election in 2024.
“No nation in history has inflicted more chaos on mankind than China did through its reckless mismanagement of the coronavirus,” he is expected to say. “American tariffs must remain in place until China opens its markets and until China comes clean about unleashing the coronavirus pandemic on the world.”
“In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, we know that China’s leaders cannot be trusted,” his prepared remarks continue.
“The world is awakening to the fact that the Chinese Communist Party aspires not merely to join the community of economically developed nations, but to sit atop a new global order created in its image – a world in which freedom is constrained, but Beijing’s power is not,” Mr. Pence will say.
Mr. Pence, who has been an outspoken critic of President Biden’s posture toward the Chinese Communist Party, is expected double down in his criticism of the current White House.
“The recent signals sent by the current American administration should be cause for deep concern for freedom-loving nations across the Asia Pacific,” Mr. Pence is expected to say. “The Biden administration has announced that it is considering removing the tariffs imposed on China during our administration, allowing China to resume its trade abuses without consequence. This is unwise and unacceptable.”
“Appeasement has never worked a single time in human history, and it will not work now,” his remarks read. “Peace and economic progress proceed from strength. And we must ensure that our leaders send an unambiguous message that China’s military and economic aggression will no longer be tolerated.”
